Howard Whitaker, Head Custodian at Thornwilde Elementary, is the May 2013 BREAK THE MOLD Winner.  Mr. Whitaker stepped into his position has Head Custodian at Thornwilde Elementary with a huge job ahead of him; getting the building ready in a short period of time.  Mr. Whitaker worked long hours and did anything and everything asked to make sure the building was ready for students.

The greatest way to describe Mr. Whitaker is that he is personally committed to the students and considers the school his home and the staff his family.  He comes in early, leaves late and works on weekends to ensure that everything is in perfect working order for our students daily.

Congratulations Mr. Whitaker!
The Governor's Scholars Program is a summer residential program for outstanding high school students in Kentucky who are rising seniors. The Program originated in 1983 as a result of Kentucky leaders' concern that the state's "best and brightest" were leaving the Commonwealth to pursue educational and career opportunities elsewhere without fully understanding the potential of their talents at home. Students who are selected attend the Program without charge. In the spirit of partnership, the Office of the Governor, the Kentucky State Legislature, and private enterprise come together to provide the financial support for the Program.

The Program's mission is to enhance Kentucky's next generation of civic and economic leaders.  Congratulations to the following 2013 Governor's Scholars in Boone County Schools:
